Jacksonville chapter of the International Laurel & Hardy Appreciation
Society (a/k/a Sons of the Desert)

Purpose of April meeting: Free screening of the 1933 horror film
classic KING KONG. We usually screen only L&H movies at our Tent
meetings. The purpose of this screening is twofold: to celebrate the
movie's (a) 75th anniversary and (b) co-creator, Merion C. Cooper, who was born in Jacksonville. (The 1932 Laurel & Hardy short subject THE CHIMP will also be screened, just prior to showing KING KONG.)

Congratulations to Joel and Ethan Coen for their big night at the Academy Awards...they took home three of the four statues won by No Country For Old Men including Picture, Director and Adapted Screenplay.

For me, the true magical moment of the evening was the superb Marion Cotillard winning Best Actress for La Vie En Rose. Surprising, but undeniably deserved. This one award makes up for a good number of Academy blunders in my book, and if you haven't seen La Vie En Rose, do so. I promise, you'll thank me.
